New North Shore Residence
Swampscott, MA

This residence has been developed on a secluded side street near a historic area in Swampscott. The house contains about 6,000 square feet in three levels. The exterior design recalls the stately summer estate houses that were built in this area of Swampscott, with a relaxed mixture of Georgian Revival and Arts and Crafts motifs. The site plan has a circular drive at the main entrance; to one side is a three car garage. Fences, plantings and old street trees separate the house from the street. At the back of the house is a private deck off the family room and a lawn surrounded by large specimen shade trees.

The interior is organized around a broad stairwell, with a sitting area above the entrance on the second floor. The plan has a formal zone with living and dining room facing the street on the first floor, and an expansive family room and kitchen at the back facing the private outdoor space. On the second floor, a master bedroom suite occupies the view side, with a private outdoor porch. Three bedrooms comprise the rest of the floor. A back stair leads to a game room on the third floor. This has a deck at the east end with sweeping views of Nahant Bay.
